Marenisco TOWNSHIP — The Marenisco Township Board of Trustees is getting close to approving its new budget for the 2024-2025 year.

Supervisor Bruce Mahler said Tuesday that trustees also are working toward creating a new Facebook page and hiring someone to update the township website.

He added that the pending budget will include a new patrol car for Police Chief James Webber and a new lawn mower for the Department of Public Works.

The township’s new budget year starts April 1.

Mahler said the biggest challenge in addressing it is inflation. “It’s just amazing in the past few years how much prices have spiked,” he said, while conceding that the one silver lining from the mild winter has been lower heating costs.

In other news at the board’s Monday evening meeting, trustees also:

—Hired Alicia Dunbar as a part-time secretary in the Marenisco Township Hall. Mahler said she will help to provide support to Clerk Donna Kenney.

—Voted to request Melissa Prisbe, the township assessor, to conduct annual assessments of township property.

The board’s February meeting, which normally would have been scheduled for the 3rd Monday of the month, was postponed until the 4th Monday due to illness.

Mahler said the March meeting also has been scheduled out of the norm. The board’s next meeting will be March 25 at 6 p.m. and will include a hearing on the 2024-2025 budget.

A special meeting then also is scheduled for March 29 at 6 p.m. to adopt the new budget and to amend the 2023-2024 budget.
