IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Patrick J. Niemi, age 55, of Ironwood Township, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Feb. 23, 2024.
Patrick was born on Dec. 1, 1968, in Ironwood, to the late Olive and Raymond Niemi. He is survived by his loving sons, Andrew and Michael Niemi; brother, Raymond Niemi Jr .; sister-in-law, Paulette Niemi; nephews, Anthony and Nick Niemi; and an aunt, Lillian Sullivan.
Patrick attended St. Ambrose Catholic School for most of his schooling and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School. While attending high school, Patrick enjoyed playing baseball and basketball. He attended Gogebic Community College and later attended Michigan Technological University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in scientific and technical communications. He worked many years at Bretting Manufacturing in Ashland, Wisconsin, as a technical writer. He married Laurie Taylor on Sept. 12, 1998.
Patrick enjoyed fishing, hunting, making maple syrup, and spending time with family. He was a charter captain and spent many summers taking charters out of Black River Harbor on the Riku, the family boat. Many memories were made fishing with his father and sons. Patrick also enjoyed spending time at the family hunting camp, The Hemlock Hilton, with family. Patrick had a gift for writing and published numerous novels, some of which were based on his life experiences.
His friends and family will dearly miss him and he will always be remembered for his charismatic personality and sense of imagination.
Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in the St. Joseph Family Room, 108 S. Marquette St. in Ironwood, on Saturday, March 9, from noon to 1 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Brian Gerber, celebrant.
