DATELINE, State - Margaret "Peggy" Brunner, 96, of Mercer, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at her home.
Peggy was born on June 15, 1927, to Frank Jr. and Hazel (Girsch) Brunner in Ironwood, Michigan. Peggy was a pillar of the Mercer community, she loved to give her time to better the area.
Peggy won the Volunteer of the Year award from the Mercer Chamber. She coached baseball, was on the park commission, the Mercer School Advisory Board, the advisory board for Chairman John Raabe, was the head of community center project, on the Land and Lake Commission, was president of the Mercer Historical Society, helped on the golf tournaments and wreath sales, helped the Mercer Food Pantry and she started the "Home Hunger Fighters", helped with the 4th of July Parade, was a member of the Republican Party, volunteered at the Lupine Fest, and was involved in too many other things to mention! Peggy was a Lioness Charter member and served as the president three times. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene and was on their board. Peggy loved watching every baseball game and going hunting and fishing.
She will be missed by her brothers, Rev. Richard Brunner and Robert (Rita) Brunner; sisters, Eleanor (Lynn) Gourley and Kathleen Kadrlik; and many numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Hazel Brunner; her brothers, Frank Brunner and Rev. Roswell Brunner; sisters, Jeanette White and June Schenzel; and brothers and sisters-in-law.
Visitation for Peggy was held on Tuesday, June 4, at the Mercer Methodist Church with Rev. Erv Teichmiller officiating. Burial was set to follow at the Mercer Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Peggy's name to the Mercer Food Pantry or Mercer Historical Society.
