George was born April 29, 1941, in Ironwood, Michigan, the son of George L. and Leona (Heus) Reardon. He grew up in Hurley, Wisconsin, and graduated in 1959. He attended St. Thomas University in St. Paul, Minnesota, graduating with a B.A. in Accounting. He was active in the Elks lodge and served in the Michigan Army National Guard.

George married Kathryn Gorilla on Aug. 14, 1964, then settled in Ironwood to start their family. Marc, their first-born son, arrived in 1965. George and Kathy moved their family first to Eau Claire, Wisconsin, in 1968 and then to Decatur in 1970, with George joining ADM as a tax accountant. In 1970, their family expanded with the birth of their daughter, Marcia, and again grew with the birth of their son, Shawn, in 1972. George was active in coaching soccer in the Y program. He was fond of his business and family trips to the Cayman Islands. George became an ardent supporter of fanconi anemia research after his daughter Marcia was diagnosed with the disease.

During his 380-year career at ADM, George served as internal audit and budget manager and tax department manager. He was invited to travel to Russia as part of an international delegation of financial and tax experts in 1992. He was named Vice President of Global Tax in 2002 before retiring in 2008.

Later in life, he looked forward to spending his winters in Palm Springs with Marcia and his dachshund, Francis, and was always welcoming to his family and friends. In his last years, he relocated to Springfield, where he loved spending time with his grandchildren, Lily, Caroline and Nora.

Surviving are his sons, Marc Reardon (Dr. Becky) of Woodstock, Illinois, and Shawn Reardon of Sherman, Illinois; and grandchildren, Lily Geneva, Caroline Reardon and Nora Reardon.

George was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy; his parents; and his daughter, Marcia.
