Gogebic County prosecutor retires; long history as local attorney

BESSEMER — In 1982, when Nicholas Jacobs first became the Gogebic County prosecuting attorney, he was the youngest one in the state, still in his late 20s.

Now, he said, “I’m the oldest person in this courthouse.”

He was speaking with The Globe in what was then still his office on May 21, but his final day was on Sunday, after which he officially retired.

“I’ll keep my license,” he said, “but you won’t see me in a courtroom or in a law office ever again. Not that I don’t like the law, but enough is enough.”
