A LARGE group of participants gather on Sept. 23 to participate in the 14th annual rally titled "Walk a Mile in My Shoes," sponsored by the Gogebic County Community Mental Health Authority in Wakefield and the Range Suicide Prevention Council in Ironwood. Providing an additional dose of spirit, along with help in holding the sign, was Sam the Samson, the mascot for Gogebic Community College in Ironwood. The event based at VFW Post 9084 in Wakefield included speeches, a film and the walk, with the goal of raising awareness regarding suicide and mental health. This year's theme was "Be kind to your mind. Mental health matters." Guest speaker Missy Lane, a former CMHA employee who is pictured at the bottom of page 1, encouraged participants to be kind to others and stand up for those being bullied. "It's just as important to be kind to yourself," she said. "Be kind to your mind."
