BILL TREGEMBO, plant manager of Ironwood's new water treatment facility, cuts the red ribbon held by Ironwood Mayor Kim Corcoran and City Commissioner Jim Mildren during the plant's Sept. 30 grand opening ceremony. Located near Ironwood's original 1920s-era pump house in Ironwood Township, the new facility filters iron and manganese from the city's water and improves clarity. City Manager Paul Anderson, standing between the mayor and Tregembo, said grants from Michigan's Department of the Environment, Great Lakes and Energy, and from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Rural Development office of the U.S. Department of Agriculture covered three-quarters of the $22 million construction cost. He thanked the government agencies, private companies and individuals who contributed to the project.
