  • Pies, mud and music: Iron County fair draws big crowds

    SAXON, Wis. - The 88th annual Iron County Fair had a successful weekend, seeing beautiful weather and lots of fair-goers. Saturday was the busiest day, hosting a number of events, Earl's Rides, competitions and of course the 4-H buildings. Both a kiddie tractor pull and an antique tractor pull took place around lunch time with Marty's Goldenaires holding a flag raising ceremony and performance right after.   • Library hosts picnic at Bluff Valley Park

    BESSEMER - Bessemer Public Library invited the public to a picnic on Saturday at Bluff Valley Park. On a sunny Saturday afternoon, children and adults came to show appreciation for the library's hard work during the summer reading program. "This is to say thank you for coming out and participating in all of our events this summer," library director Melissa Rajala said. Before the fun started, it was lunch time.   • GCC recieves TRIO Student Support Services Grant

    IRONWOOD — Gogebic Community College has been chosen as the recipient of the 2015-2020 TRIO-Student Support Services Grant in the amount of $247,580. “This is the fourth time GCC has received the grant, and one of a very limited number of programs to receive a perfect score on the grant application,” said Jessica Leinon-Novascone, Director of TRIO-SSS.     IRONWOOD, Mich.- Melba V. VanLokeren, 89, of Ironwood, died Friday, July 31, 2015, at Aspirus Grand View Hospital in Ironwood. The former Melba Koski was born Dec. 4, 1925, in Bessemer Township, daughter of the late Hjalmer and Lydia (Luoma) Koski, attended Erwin Central School and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School as salutatorian of the Class of 1943. She was married to Charles J. "Charlie" VanLokeren on July 16, 1949, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ironwood by the late Rev.
