Commission candidates sound off this week

IRONWOOD — Ironwood residents will be hearing from city commission candidates quite a bit this week.

All 11 candidates for Ironwood City Commission in the Nov. 3 election are expected to participate in a Tuesday candidates’ forum at Gogebic Community College.

The forum will be at 7 p.m. in the upper level conference room at the Lindquist Center.

The top five vote-getters will be seated on the commission. The highest vote-getter is elected mayor.

Chuck Gervasio, of WUPM-FM, will moderate.

Candidates will be allowed a brief opening and closing statement and will respond to previously prepared questions chosen by the moderator from those submitted in writing by audience members at the time of the forum.

There will be no direct questioning of the candidates by the audience, according to Ironwood Chamber of Commerce Director Michael Meyer.

Charter Communications plans on taping the forum for rebroadcasts.

An informal “meet and greet” with the candidates will take place from 6:30 to 7 p.m.

Candidates include Phillip Rynders, Annette Burchell, Kim Corcoran, Joseph Cayer Jr., Steve Frank, Paul Grbavcich, David Kinnunen, Bill Martell, Jim Mildren, Rick Semo and Brandon Tauer.

The Daily Globe has sent out a questionnaire to the 11 candidates and plans on publishing their responses around the middle of the week. Candidates are reminded that today is the deadline to respond to the Daily Globe’s questions.
