Donald D. Fortune

BRADENTON, Fla. - Donald D. Fortune went to be with the Lord on May 21, 2016.

He was born on Oct. 7, 1932.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn. He is also survived by a daughter, Debra, K. Johnson; and sons, Scott (Sandy), Todd and David (Yong) Fortune; as well as grandchildren, Tina (Matt), Nathan, Michael, Maria (Chris), David, Daniel, Sonja, Christina (Drew), Alexandra and Sarah; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Don had a very successful banking career as president and CEO of 1st National Bank of Calumet, Mich., and president and CEO of MFC First National Bank of Ironwood, Mich. Don was the principal organizing force behind the organization, charter and capitalization of Gogebic Range Bank in Bessemer, Mich., serving as president and CEO.

Don was very civic minded, serving as president of the board of directors for Grand View Hospital, and the Gogebic Community College Foundation board, where he was honored as Distinguished Board member. He was also Rotary Club president and vice president of the Peridia Golf and Country Club. Don was also Second Degree Knight of Columbus and served as a Eucharistic Minister at several Catholic churches. He was president of the Navy League in Saginaw, Mich. He enjoyed boating, skiing, golf and was an amateur artist.

Don served as an illustrator in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. He also enjoyed volunteering at the Ringling and with Fine Arts Society Sarasota.

He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel; parents, David and Loretta; and brother, Reginald Fortune.

He is survived by his sister, Bonnie Mathews (Les); and sister-in-law, Marsha Swiss (Dave); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradenton, on June 3, at 11 a.m., with visitation at 10:30 a.m.
