Wakefield - Gogebic Medical Care Facility hosted an open house Saturday afternoon.

Several staff members, including certified nursing assistant Scott Pospeck, took visitors along a tour and talked about the facility and what Gogebic Medical does.

The facility is home to over 100 "fascinating people," Pospeck said as the tour walked by a resident's living quarters.

He said Gogebic Medical offers residents certified nursing and extensive rehabilitation from a staff that is "devoted to each resident's individual needs"

"We provide an understanding and loving atmosphere for everyone who calls our facility home," Pospeck said.

Along the way, he showed the family visiting area, which has a river rock fire place, comfortable furniture and a television.

There are "plenty of opportunities" for rest and relaxation, Pospeck said as he showed the tour one of the several multi-purpose rooms.

"Our facility department offers each resident community activities which provide social and sensory stimulation," he said. "We also offer religious services and faith-based activities.

Pospeck led the tour to the dining hall, where dietary aide Gail Stratman was cleaning the tables after lunch. On the menu Saturday was stuffed cabbage rolls. Pospeck said Gogebic Medical serves cozy, home style dinning.

"Residents and guests enjoy meals in attractive and friendly surroundings," he said. "Families are encouraged to dine with their loved ones."

The tour moved down a hallway and out to the garden. Pospeck said the garden is "the perfect hideaway."

The large garden features a handicapped accessible swing, a gazebo and several small gardens planted by residents and volunteers.

After the tour, food and refreshments were served. With a smile, Pospeck said he calls the residents and his coworkers "family." Fellow CNA Leo Arnestad said working at Gogebic Medical is very rewarding.
