Wakefield TOWNSHIP — After 25 years of public service to the township, Delmar Smith has retired.

Jerry Niemi replaces Smith as a trustee.

The audit of the township was completed. The township has a balance of $559,000, enough to operate for two years in an emergency, which outpaces the suggested amount of reserves on hand. Last year, the township spent $30,000 less than budgeted.

Property assessments are an ongoing affair and each local government is required to reassess at least 20 percent of its properties. Melissa Prisbe is available at 906-364-2910 to schedule a time for entry onto the property.

The storm in July wrecked many plans involving the roads. The roads will be plowed this winter and those areas that did not get mowed or addressed during the summer and fall should be taken care of next summer.
