Ironwood - While the snow forced the celebration inside, it didn't appear to dampen the enthusiasm of the students as the Ironwood Area Schools celebrated Halloween Tuesday.

The LLW Events Committee had originally planned to hold a "Trunk or Treat" event outside, according to committee member Michelle Trier, but the change in weather moved the events inside.

The K-6 students had the opportunity to trick or treat through one of the first floor halls, getting candy from volunteers.

Trier said the 7-12 students had Halloween treats in their classrooms, and the home rooms participated in a pumpkin decorating contest.

Trier said it was especially nice to get the older grades involved in the festivities - both with their own events and as volunteers helping pass out candy to the younger kids - as the school is now a K-12 school and the committee is working to include all grade levels.

She thanked the community and various organizations for all the donations and support that made the event possible.

"Parents, (the Parent Teacher Organization), businesses, different organizations (all helped volunteer for the event)," Trier said.

This is the second year the district held a Trunk or Treat event, and Trier said it was once again a success.

"(I'm) very pleased. The volunteers were happy with how it went too, it was very organized," Trier said. "Parents were gracious in their donations of treats and costumes, so every child had a costume to wear."

The committee's next event is the annual Jack Frost Gingerbread Workshop, which is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 18 in the elementary school cafeteria.
