Ewen - Kids across the region headed back to class Tuesday. The halls were a bustling at the Ewen-Trout Creek school on the opening day of the 2018-19 school year. A "School Rocks!" poster, created by juniors Gracie Witt and Paige Berglund, was in the elementary wing and featured a school desk at which the children sat to have their pictures taken. Outside the building sported new black and gold pennant flags, E-TC's school colors.

There are a total of 196 students enrolled this year at E-TC. All students are housed in one building with the younger classes in the south wing and the older students to the north. In the kindergarten through sixth grade classes there are 83 students and 7 teachers. In the junior high and high school there are 113 students, taught by 10 instructors.

The school has hired three new teachers this year. Kayla Peterson is the first grade teacher, Branden Broniewicz teaches 7-12 grade math. Nina Fiorucci has taken a part-time art teacher position. Fiorucci teaches mornings at E-TC, then spends the afternoon at the Watersmeet school.

Other new classes added to the curriculum are welding, agriculture and CNA classes. These are made available through the Gogebic- Ontonagon Intermediate School District. Also new this year is a robotics class the students can take via ITV.
