ATV death in Oma

OMA, Wis. — A Hazelhurst man died as a result of injuries from an all-terrain vehicle crash in Oma on Saturday, according to a press release from the Iron County Sheriff’s Office.

County emergency dispatch received a 911 call at approximately 7:55 p.m., reporting an ATV crash on Trail 17 at Riverside Drive, in the Town of Oma, according to Sheriff Paul Samardich. The 36 year old ATV operator was traveling north and appeared to have struck an object and was ejected from his machine and struck a tree. The rider was traveling in a group but the crash was reportedly not witnessed by other riders, the announcement said.

Deputies along with Beacon Ambulance Service and officers from Hurley Police Department and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Deputies arrived on scene in approximately seven minutes. At that time CPR was already in progress.

Lifesaving efforts continued during transport and upon arrival at Aspirus Ironwood Hospital where the rider was later pronounced dead, according to the announcement.

The crash investigation is being conducted by the Iron County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin DNR. Oneida County Sheriff’s Office and Gogebic-Iron Victim Services also responded to the call.
