Ironwood — The Gogebic Community College board of trustees held a special meeting on Monday evening to discuss several personnel issues, including progress on their presidential search.

The board has reviewed 12 applications, and members rated each of them based on how they felt individuals would best fit the position.

The board elected to schedule interviews with 10 of the applicants. This first-round of interviews will be held via Zoom, said chairman Susan Beals, even if the applicants are local, so as to keep everyone on the same playing field.

The board also discussed a variety of topics to bring up in the interviews. Some of the topics included accountability, fundraising and faculty retention.

“I am all for simpler questions,” said Beals, “Asking a broader question and letting the person being interviewed answering it however they feel best.”

The search committee will finalize the list of questions for board approval before the interviews.

Other personnel matters included:

—Appointing Glen Ackerman-Behr as a business instructor. He is transferring from the college’s director of workforce development, a position he has held since 2019.

—Revising the director of Mt. Zion and Mt. Zion supervisor positions, moving William Perrin, Mt. Zion supervisor, to a full-time 12-month position.

—Appointing Lisa O’Leary as assistant volleyball coach.

—Accepting the resignation of McKenzie Kanipes as counselor. She is taking a position with the Gogebic Ontonagon Intermediate School District as a K-12 counselor. The board approved the listing for the counselor position.

—Appointing Chad Lashua, vice president of business services, to represent the college at the time of close for the sale of the building trades program’s spec home located on lot 1 on Mt. Zion Drive in Ironwood. The bid for its sale at $315,000 was approved by the board on June 27.
