Gregory A. 'Bugs' Bugni

MONTREAL, Wis. - Gregory A. "Bugs" Bugni, 76, of Montreal, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023, at the Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital after a courageous 5-month battle with cancer.

Greg was born on March 23, 1947, to Anthony and Mary (Reader) Bugni in Milwaukee. He was a graduate of J.E. Murphy High School in Hurley with the class of 1965. He proudly served his county in the U.S. Air Force for 12.5 years (1966-1978) and was a Vietnam veteran. Greg flew all over the world on C-130s. He served as a crew chief on 38th, 47th, 48th Troop Carrier Squadrons and at Frobes Air Base (1966-1970). He was a member of the Mercer VFW Post 9536 for 25 years.

On June 26, 1982, he was united in marriage with Barbara Peterson in Rochester, Minnesota.

Greg was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley. He enjoyed fishing, especially musky fishing, hunting, and collecting guns. He was a great storyteller - his famous lines being "Where are you from?" and "You got time for one more?" Greg was also an avid sports fan rooting for the Wisconsin Badgers, Green Bay Packers and Chicago Cubs. He never turned down a chance to "wheel and deal," watch movies or play a game of Scrabble.

He will be missed by his wife of 41 years, Barb; children, Mark (LeAnn) Bugni of Eagan, Minnesota, Jenny (Jason) Hollenbach of Superior, and Samantha Bugni of Superior; sister, Patricia (Jerry) Rossman of Rochester, Minnesota; grandchildren, Antonio and Marco Bugni, Aidan Bugni, and Paige and Brock Buccanero. Greg is further survived by his sister-in-law, Bonnie (James) Hanson; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Mary; brother, Dennis; and sister, Mary Pat.

Per Greg's wishes no formal funeral services are taking place. The family will be planning a gathering at a later date.
