John Jennings

IRONWOOD, Mich. - John Peter Jennings, 62, a resident of Ironwood Township, entered into the presence of His Messiah Jesus on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024.

John was born on Aug. 4, 1961, in Little Rock, Arkansas, and was adopted by his parents, Peter and Jean Fox. They moved to Lower Michigan where John spent his childhood.

John received his associate degree in police science and became a security guard at the Opryland Hotel.

He then chose to enlist in the U.S. Army, serving as a truck driver for his entire time in the military, and was proud to have served overseas in Operation Desert Storm.

Upon completing his seven years of military service, John obtained his bachelor's degree in Judaic studies from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.

On Sept. 16, 2000, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Judith Kinnunen, and eventually moved to Ironwood Township where he put his mechanical prowess to work by reopening his father-in-law Reuben's business. John was the sole proprietor of Kinnunen's Garage in Ironwood Township where he not only helped others through auto repair, but made lasting friendships with his patrons.

John accepted everyone in all walks of life, without judgment, and always made time for people. Sharing with others from his wealth of knowledge brought joy to him, and teaching Scripture through the lens of Jewish culture and history was his passion. He and his best friend, Judi, enjoyed being an active part of the Klassic Kruisers Car Club, Little Finland, and loved spending time training their dog, Sacha.

John is survived by his wife, Judi, and numerous other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his dear son, Devin.

To a beloved husband, relative and friend, we are deeply grieved. Yet, knowing you are safely and securely in the presence of your Savior Jesus is what gives us comfort in this time of unexpected loss.

A celebration of John's life will be held Saturday, Jan. 27, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 9:30 a.m., at the Calvary Baptist Church, 1201 Peters St., in Wakefield, with the Rev. Michael Riley officiating.

A lunch will be served at the church fellowship hall immediately following the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Judith Jennings, E4717 Airport Road, Ironwood, MI 49938.
