MDOT, Ironwood to hold meeting on U.S. 2 project

IRONWOOD — The Michigan Department of Transportation and city of Ironwood have scheduled a Thursday, March 28, public meeting to discuss U.S. 2 (Cloverland Drive) corridor construction plans for 2014.

The meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. in the Ironwood Memorial Building auditorium. It will include a brief presentation, followed by an opportunity for residents and business owners to ask questions or speak one-on-one with MDOT or city officials.

“While this planned U.S. 2 corridor work will result in major improvements in the city of Ironwood, it also will have significant traffic effects during construction,” said Ironwood City Manager Scott Erickson. “We encourage residents to come to the meeting, see what’s planned, and offer their thoughts on the project long before construction begins.”

Agenda items include:

—An overview of the project scope, schedule, proposed design, municipal utilities, sidewalk locations, signal upgrades and other plan details.

—Plans for maintaining traffic and detour routes.

—Right-of-way acquisition for the project.

—Access management considerations, which involve modifying driveways’ access to minimize vehicle conflicts and improve safety for motorists.

Anyone needing special accommodations for the meeting should call MDOT’s Crystal Falls Transportation Center at 866-584-8100.

In preparation for Thursday’s meeting, the Ironwood City Commission has scheduled a special informal work session for Monday at 5 p.m. in commission chambers. The purpose is to discuss the planned reconstruction enhancements.
