Mercer School needs votes to win grant

MERCER, Wis. — The Mercer School is a finalist to win a $25,000 grant through State Farm’s “Science in Our School” program.

Science teacher Sheri Kopka told the student body about the possible grant Thursday morning, adding that help is needed from area residents to help the school win the grant. “Mercer’s submission, along with the other finalists, are live on Facebook and anyone who gets the State Farm Neighborhood Assist Facebook application can log on and vote for our cause,” school board member Deanna Pierpont said. “The 40 causes that receive the most votes will be announced on April 29 and the $25,000 grant will be awarded to the affiliated nonprofit to implement the solution.”

If won, the grant would update science equipment in Mercer classrooms.

Facebook users may visit state-assist.com/cause/2106/science-in-our-school to install the application and cast votes for Mercer until voting closes April 22. “Facebook users who get the application are eligible to vote up to 10 times per day,” Pierpont said.
