HURLEY, Wis. - Marie A. Connors, 100, a lifelong Hurley resident, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hurley.

The former Marie Chiapusio was born Feb. 13, 1913, in Albia, Iowa, daughter of the late John and Mary (Bertolone) Chiapusio. She moved to Hurley at the age of 1, where she attended St. Mary's Grade School and graduated from Hurley High School in 1931. She then was employed at Blatz Brewing Distributing in Hurley for several years.

Marie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley and was very devoted to her family and church. She enjoyed all types of crafts and was an outstanding cook and baker.

She was married to Mathew "Mat" Connors on Sept. 17, 1938, at St. Mary's Church in Hurley, by the late Rev. Peter F. Meyers. Mat preceded her in death on Aug. 3, 1993.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Jo Starzman, Jackson; four grandchildren, Kathy McCoy, Germantown, Patrick J. Connors and Linda (David) Kelley, both of Green Bay, and Mary Jo (Henry) Pensic, Calgary, Alberta, Canada; two great-grandchildren, Nicole and David Kelley; daughter-in-law, Karen Connors, Green Bay; niece, Georgia (Pat) McCanna, Burlington; and three nephews, Gary (Meg) Nolan, and Joey (Pat) and Tony (Sue) Zancanaro, all of Milwaukee. 

Besides her parents and husband, Marie was preceded in death by two sons, Michael, in infancy, and Patrick, on Aug. 14, 1993; a daughter, Jeanne McCoy, Oct. 22, 2008; son-in-law, Donald McCoy, Sept. 11, 2013; and three sisters, Lucy Chiapusio in infancy, Margaret Chiapusio and Grace Nolan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Nov. 27, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Frank Kordek OFM, celebrant.

Rite of Committal and interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood, Mich.

A luncheon reception will be held at the Iron Nugget in downtown Hurley.
