Susan McLean Olson

IRONWOOD, Mich. — Susan McLean Olson, 57, of Ironwood, died unexpectedly Friday evening, Feb. 19, 2016, at home.

She was born Oct. 11, 1958, in Minneapolis, Minn., daughter of Mike and the late Delores (Larson) McLean, and graduated from New Ulm High School, New Ulm, Minn., in 1977. She received an associate degree in business from New Ulm Community College in 1979 and was employed as a legal secretary in Milwaukee for four years. She then became a licensed realtor and worked for REMAX Realty in the Milwaukee area before moving to Mercer, Wis. She moved to Ironwood in 1999 and worked briefly at Jacquart Manufacturing until retiring due to ill health.

On Super Bowl Sunday, 2002, she was married to Kenneth J. Olson in Ironwood. Susan loved Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers and was a big Green Bay Packers fan, and Ken was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Susan was also a great cook and loved animals, especially her yellow Lab, “Whiskey J”. She was kind, considerate and helpful to many, and will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her husband, Kenneth, of 14 years; son, Fritz (Becky) Schellgell, Oshkosh, Wis .; granddaughter, Emma; father and stepmother, Mike and Irma McLean, New Ulm; and ex-husband and friend, Fritz Schellgell, Mercer.

Besides her mother, Delores, who died in 1989, Susan was predeceased by her sister, Colleen Stay.

Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has taken place.

Private services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to HOPE Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 261, Ironwood, MI 49938.
