  • Ironwood school board renews lease with GOISD

    IRONWOOD - The Ironwood Area Schools Board of Education, on Monday, approved continuing a lease with the Gogebic-Ontonagon Intermediate School District to allow the GOISD to use a number of empty classrooms in Luther L. Wright. According to district Superintendent Tim Kolesar, the lease price of $32,981 is the same rate that the district leased the space to the GOISD last year and is more than likely close to a standard rate that the GOISD most likely pays all districts to use their facilities.... Full story

    IRONWOOD - Singer-songwriter Natalie Mae Palms brought her dad, Mark Palms, and singer-songwriter Billy King with her to perform at the Ironwood Theatre Sunday. Born and raised in Manchester, Mae was inspired by her professional musician parents. "Growing up listening my parents play and watching them work together, it was very special," she said.   • Opportunity missed to draw tourists

    Letter to the Editor: I believe Ironwood is missing out on an opportunity to draw and hold a category of tourists. That category is RVers. Ironwood’s RV park is Curry Park in front of the fair grounds. It has a very large portion that has no services (designed before modern RV units) and a newer part with 10 spots that have water, electric and sewer. But the electric service supports only 110 volts and all newer RVs are either 20 AMP or 50 AMP power needs.     ERWIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Diane (Grbavcich) Smerling, 53, went to her eternal resting place on July 19, 2015, having her husband, Ken, and their dog, Aspen, at her side. Diane is the daughter of Bernice (Koleski) Grbavcich and the late August "Bozo" Grbavcich. She was preceded in death by her father, "Bozo;" her godfather, Paul Grbavcich; and mother-in-law, Ardiss Smerling.
