Adele L. Melchiori

WAKEFIELD, Mich. - Adele L. Melchiori, 82, of Ironwood, died peacefully Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, surrounded by her loving family, at Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield.

The former Adele Hulburd was born Jan. 20, 1932, in Detroit, daughter of the late John and Leila (Bernier) Hulburd, and graduated from Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor in 1949. She then was employed at Kodak Camera in Ann Arbor for two years.

She was united in marriage to Wayne F. Melchiori on Jan. 26, 1952, at University Lutheran Chapel in Ann Arbor. They resided in San Diego, Calif., while Wayne served a tour in the U.S. Navy, then lived in Dearborn for two years prior to moving to Ironwood in 1959.

Adele was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood. An avid artist, she was a longtime member of the Range Art Association and most recently won a grand champion ribbon for one of her earlier works entered at this year's Gogebic County Fair. She was an excellent cook and baker and enjoyed crafts. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband, Wayne, of 62 years; four daughters, Kim (David) Benson, Neenah, Wis., Robin (Ken) Gleason, Okemos, Kelli (Mike) Crane, Lakeville, Minn., and Pam (Ed) Haupt, Bloomington, Minn .; seven grandchildren, Drew Benson, Lauren (John) Koehler, Leslie and Karen Gleason, and Eric, Ryan and Dana Haupt; two great-grandchildren, Addie and Chase Koehler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Adele was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Donald Hulburd.

Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has taken place.

Memorial services will be held Monday, Aug. 25, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 9:30 a.m., at Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Kurt Kovanen officiating.

Luncheon will follow at the Elk & Hound on Country Club Road in Ironwood.

Private interment will be in Washtenong Memorial Park in Ann Arbor at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Gogebic Community College Foundation, E4946 Jackson Road, Ironwood, MI 49938.
