Ewen-Trout Creek holds commencement

EWEN - Thirteen graduates received diplomas Friday night during the 48th commencement ceremony at Ewen-Trout Creek High School.

The 2015 graduating class had two co-valedictorians, both of whom spoke during the ceremony.

Molly Niemi spoke first, thanking all those who contributed to her success through school, including caring teachers, friends, family and fellow classmates.

Niemi was emotional throughout her speech as she thanked everyone.

John Berglund III gave a "short but sweet" speech, calling it that as he began.

Berglund also thanked the staff, his family and fellow classmates.

The ceremony also welcomed two guest speakers. The first was retiring English teacher Nancy Gatta.

Gatta was dressed from head to toe in lime green, the 2015 class color.

Gatta offered advice to the graduates for future years and at one point quoted Lady Gaga: "Don't you ever let a soul in the world tell you that you can't be exactly who you are."

The other guest speaker was fellow classmate Zachary Potvin, who because of a few circumstances, he said, ended up graduating from Bessemer last week.

Potvin was pleased that he could share in the celebration of his friends Friday night.

Other speakers included student council class president Alexandrea Schaad and salutatorian Jacob Moilanen.

Superintendent Loren Vannest and board of education president Dr. Kirk Schott presented the diplomas to the graduates.

Music accompaniment was provided by the high school band, directed by Bradley Besonen.
