ERWIN TOWNSHIP — Erwin Township Clerk Vicky Finco needs workers for the three upcoming elections and the township is currently accepting applications, according to information presented at Wednesday’s board of trustees meeting.

“Right now I have one election worker, and we need to have at least four,” Finco told the audience. “You have to have two from each party to represent the election inspectors.”

This year, there are three elections, according to Gogebic County Clerk Gerry Pelissero — the March 8 presidential primary, the August primary for county and township races and the November general election.

Finco explained while she and the other township officials can help work the March election, workers can’t work in elections where they appear on the ballot.

Ideally, Finco would like to get more than four worker, to protect against someone being unavailable.

“We do need people to step forward that want to be an election inspector,” said Finco, “and I’d like to get a pool of maybe five or six and make sure we always have four for every election.”

The only requirement, according to Finco, is that workers are registered to vote in Michigan.

There is a small payment for working, she added.

In other action:

— Finco said she is working to get the township ready for the upcoming elections. She also said she will be at the township hall — as required by law — from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 5 for anyone needing a last minute absentee ballot.

— The board approved sending the members of the township’s board of review to a training in Houghton Feb. 9.

— The board agreed to discuss establishing a policy regarding rental of the township hall.
