MERCER, Wis. - The Easter Bunny visited the Mercer School a little early this year as the Mercer Lions Club held its annual Easter egg hunt Saturday at the school.

While the participating children likely had a good time collecting candy and goodies, the Lions also enjoyed themselves.

"This is a fun one for us, this is just giving back to the community," said Lions member Glenn Doxsee. "You can see how the kids love this."

The group has been holding the hunt for at least a decade, Doxsee said, with it an annual tradition since he joined the group 12 years ago.

The hunt divided participants into age groups to ensure everyone has a chance to get some candy.

"If you don't, these bigger ones would mow down the little ones," Doxsee joked.

Following the hunt, dessert and hot dogs were available, as well as an opportunity for pictures with the Easter bunny.

Doxsee said the turnout for this year's hunt was reasonable, although more kids have come out in past years.

"This time of year there are usually a lot of people gone, but it's still a halfway decent turnout," Doxsee said.

While final attendance numbers weren't available, organizers estimated at least 75 kids attended the Easter egg hunt.

Doxsee and other Lions members credited the volunteers who helped make the event possible, specifically Louise and Dave Minisan who donated a considerable amount of the prizes and filled all the Easter eggs.
