Hurley students plan to dress up against drugs

HURLEY — Hurley students will dress up against drug abuse during national Red Ribbon Week, Oct. 24-28.

Details of the week are published in the K-12 school’s October newsletter.

On Monday, Oct. 24, the theme will be “Team Up Against Drugs” day, with students wearing their favorite team shirts.

Tuesday marks “Sock it to Drugs” day, with students wearing crazy stockings.

“I Believe in Me” will be the Wednesday theme, with red the featured color.

The Thursday theme will be “Join the Drug-Free Army,” with camouflage attire suggested.

Friday is “Orange You Glad You Don’t Do Drugs?” day, with the orange and black school colors suggested to show Midget Pride.

The 2016 National Red Ribbon Week theme is, “YOLO. Be Drug-Free.”

It was created by Kristopher “Jeremiah” Oakes and Logan Brehm, sixth graders at Claysburg-Kimmel Elementary School in Claysburg, Pennsylvania. The school will receive national recognition.

Both students had the same idea for the theme after hearing their sixth grade teacher use the term YOLO, for you only live once, so make good decisions.
