Cloverland Drive accident victim airlifted

IRONWOOD - The driver of one of the vehicles involved in a Tuesday accident on Cloverland Drive was airlifted to Aspirus Wausau Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

According to a Wednesday press release from the Ironwood Public Safety Department, preliminary reports from the accident indicate the 81-year-old driver was attempting to turn right onto Luxmore Street from the eastbound lane of Cloverland Drive, at around 1 p.m., when he turned in front of oncoming westbound traffic.

The investigation into the crash indicates the driver was at fault for failing to yield to the oncoming traffic.

The IPSD said it would not release the name of the driver until after the holiday, at the request of the family.

The driver and a passenger in the other vehicle involved in the accident declined transportation to Aspirus Grand View Hospital, but indicated they would seek treatment for minor injuries on their own.
