IRONWOOD, Mich. — Judith Eleanor Niemi, 92, of Bruce Crossing, passed away Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016, at Aspirus Grand View Hospital in Ironwood.
Judith was born Feb. 8, 1924, to the late Solomon and Lempi (Salo) Mattson.
Judith was a member of Bruce Crossing Apostolic Lutheran Church. She was employed by the U.S. Forest Service in Watersmeet at the Toomey Nursery. Judith was married to the late Albert Niemi on March 9, 1943. She enjoyed spending time with her family, feeding the birds, loved gardening and looking after her flowers.
She is survived by two sons, Robert (Stella), of Wakefield, and James Niemi, of Bruce Crossing; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Cindy Niemi, of Bruce Crossing, and many nieces and nephews.
Judith was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert Niemi; her son, Dennis; four sisters, Emma, Martha, Gloria and Maria; and four brothers, Arvo, Raymond, William and Waino.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016, at Bruce Crossing Apostolic Lutheran Church from 11 a.m. until time of service at noon. Pastor Jessie Aho will be officiating. Burial will take place at Hillside Cemetery in the spring.
The Cane Funeral Home, of Ontonagon, is assisting the family with arrangements.
