Sam Michael Gerber

ISHPEMING, Mich. - Sam Michael Gerber, 32, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017.

Sam was born Feb. 4, 1985, in Virginia, Minn., the son of Gary and Susan (D'Antonio) Gerber. He grew up mainly in the Kingsford-Iron Mountain Area, attending the Dickinson Area Catholic Grade School and then the Kingsford Middle School and was a graduate of the Kingsford High School class of 2003.

While in high school, he was very active in sports, especially hockey, where he was a member of the Kingsford High School team, and grew up playing on various DAHA hockey teams. Following high school, Sam attended Ferris State University and received his Bachelor of Science degree in nursing in 2008. Sam had also enjoyed football and baseball in his youth and had played Senior Men's League Hockey in Iron Mountain and this past year in the Negaunee Hockey League.

Sam recently married Amanda (Junak) Gerber on Aug. 19, 2017, and they became a family of five. He also enjoyed the outdoors, spending many hours hunting and fishing. Sam had worked for Dickinson County as Deputy Equalization Director until recently becoming the Township Assessor for Chocolay Township.

Survivors include his wife, Amanda Gerber, of Ishpeming; stepchildren, Taylor, Hunter and Parker; parents, Gary and Susan (D'Antonio) Gerber; brother, Jake (Kristen Lusardi) Gerber; grandmother, Dorothy DiGiorgio; in-laws, John and Valerie Junak; sisters-in-law, Andrea (Jason) Grover, Jessica (Ryan) Knapp and Brianna (Michael) Becka; along with numerous extended family members, including aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Private funeral services will be held.
