Carole Marie Leppala-Mehling

DULUTH, Minn. — Carole Marie Leppala-Mehling, 60, of Ironwood, Mich., died Monday, May 27, 2019, at Essentia St. Mary’s in Duluth.

Carole was born Oct. 13, 1958, in Ironwood to Bill Leppalla and Pat Junti (deceased). Bill later married Diane Leppala. Carole’s siblings included Lori, Evelyn, Deb, Dawn, Bill and Desiree.

Carole had a close relationship with her Grandfather Bill until his death in 1970. She married Bob Mehling in 1985. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in deaf studies at Gallaudet University.

Carole was very involved with the deaf community. She started a non-profit agency called Deaf or Hard of Hearing Organization to serve eastern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. She was an inspiration to many and will be missed by all.

She is survived by her husband, Bob Mehling; her children, David (Candi), Amy, Becky, Mark and Ruth; grandchildren, Antonio, Brittany, Nicole, Joseph, William, Amelia, Corey, Jaden, Ethan, Makayla, Nicholas, Taylor, Piper and Kayle; and two great-grandchildren.

Her service will be held Saturday, June 15, at 11 a.m. at the Lighthouse Family Community Church in Ironwood. She will be laid to rest at the Saxon Cemetery.

The family wants to thank everyone who spent time with Carole and realized the gifts she had for caring for others and making them know how special they were.
