LAKE GOGEBIC, Mich. — Marjorie Hurley, 94, a summer resident of Lake Gogebic, died Wednesday morning, July 31, 2019.
Marjorie was born on April 24, 1925, in Ashland, Wis., a daughter of William and Catharine Pellow. She attended A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer and graduated in 1942. Marjorie continued her education at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn., earning a nursing degree in 1947. She served in the Cadet Nursing Corps during World War II.
Marjorie was employed as an oncology nurse at the University of Minnesota for 25 years. While there, she was the proud recipient of the Distinguished Service Award.
In retirement, Marjorie and her husband spent many summers at Lake Gogebic, enjoying quality time with family and friends.
Marjorie is survived by her five children, Daniel (Marie) Hurley, Princilla (David) Crane, Patricia Gernbacher, Jim (Darlene) Hurley and Joe (Pat) Hurley; 15 cherished grandchildren; 11 dear great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Maccani (Lee); her sister-in-law, Betty Pellow; numerous nieces and nephews; lifelong friends including the Farley family and McCarthy family; and many other wonderful friends.
She was predeceased by her parents; and her beloved husband, Bernard Garrett, on Sept. 11, 2018.
Rite of Committal and interment will take place Saturday, Aug. 10, at 11 a.m., at Hillcrest Cemetery in Bessemer. The Rev. Dominic Agyapong, pastor of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, will officiate.
A reception will follow at the Hurley cottage on beautiful Lake Gogebic.
Expressions of affection in a charitable contribution in Marjorie’s memory are suggested in lieu of flowers to St. Ann Catholic Church, c/o of St. Jude Catholic Church, Box 427, White Pine, MI 49971.
