Joseph A. 'Joe' Simcoe

BESSEMER, Mich. - Joe Simcoe, 75, of Bessemer, was reunited for all eternity with his wife and the love of his life, the former Donna Johnson, on Monday, Oct. 30, 2023.

Joe and Donna were married on May 2, 1970, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Bessemer. She preceded him in death on June 2, 2009.

Joe was a terrific handyman and could "MacGyver" just about anything that didn't work right the first time. He was employed at Kimberly Clark and Indianhead Mountain for most of his adult life, then after "retirement," he did small jobs for people in the area.

Joe is survived by his son, David Chad (Jeannine), Bessemer; and his grandson, Chase Simcoe, who was the light of his life. He is further survived by a sister, MaryLou Midbrod, Silver Bay, Minnesota; two nephews, Bill (Dawn) Midbrod, Two Harbors, Minnesota, and Grant (Ricki) Midbrod and their daughter, Rebekah, all of Eldora, Iowa; a niece, Melissa Simcoe and her daughter, Ella, both of Ironwood; and his sister-in-law, Barbara Simcoe, Bessemer. Also, surviving are his special niece and nephews, Emily, Michael (Heather) and Josh (Erica) Zolecki and their families. He will be greatly missed by his dear friend, Shawn (JoJo) Koski, who was like a son to him. Joe leaves behind his dog, Zebco; and many, many good friends that are too numerous to list.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Lois; two brothers, David B. and Dennis "Legend;" a sister, in infancy; and two brothers-in-law, Bill Midbrod and David Johnson.

Joe is more than likely having the fishing trip that dreams are made of in the great beyond. As he was famous for saying, "I bet there's fish in that lake."

"Catch 'em all, Dad."

At Joe's request, cremation has taken place.

The family is honoring his life in a private service to be held in 2024.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Jerald Rocco, owner and manager of Lakeside Memorial Chapel Inc., in Wakefield. Condolences may be expressed online at lakesidememorialchapel.com.
