Eleanor Theodora Barnes

BRUCE CROSSING, Mich. - Eleanor Theodora Barnes (nee Paulson) of Bruce Crossing, passed away peacefully on Nov. 27, 2023, at Omega House in Houghton, with her family by her side.

Eleanor was born in downstate Whitehall to Elmer and Elsie Paulson on Sept. 23, 1935. She attended Whitehall School. Eleanor was blessed with five children. She was a very hard-working woman to provide for her children. She worked many years independently in the nearby Montague area as an in-home caregiver and grounds keeper for the disabled.

She was actively involved within the church, and was a devoted Christian. She spent countless hours volunteering within the church and senior center, giving to those in need. She was working at the senior center in Ewen, until she was 80 years old when she finally retired.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, camping, fishing with her grandchildren, baking, cooking, and cruising through the outdoors on backroads. She had a passion for food, and particularly enjoyed Wesco popcorn and had a sweet tooth. She had a keen ability to make and maintain friendships that lasted a lifetime.

She is survived by her five children, Debbie (Bill) Karhu, Melva Ware, Steven (Sandy) Dalton, David (Sue) Ware, Mark (Pam Ware), 22 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, extended family, and many loving friends.

Eleanor is proceeded in death by her parents, Elmer and Elsie Paulson; brother, Keith Paulson; grandson, Elden Karhu; grandson, Joey Ware; grandson, Michael Dalton; and great-granddaughter, Taylor Wierengo.

There will be two funeral services held at a later time; with one in Bruce Crossing and one in the Montague area.

Eleanor's family wants to extend our sincere gratitude to all of the staff at Aspirus Ironwood Hospital and the compassionate staff at Omega House in Houghton for making her final days as peaceful and comfortable as possible.
