Betty A. Johnson

BESSEMER, Mich. - Betty A. Johnson, 88, of Bessemer, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, at her home.

Betty was born on April 7, 1935, in Ironwood Township, a daughter of Uno A. and Jennie (Piispanen) Rundell. She grew up in North Ironwood, attended Roosevelt School and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1953.

Betty was employed by Superior Bottle Gas Company, Big Powderhorn Mountain Ski Resort, Northwest Independent Agency, as a secretary at the Sharon Lutheran Church and concluded her working career at North Central Health Care.

On Aug. 25, 1962, Betty was united in marriage to Carl H. Johnson at the Sharon Lutheran Church. They shared a life together for 40 years before Carl passed away on Aug. 23, 2002.

Her interests included bowling, puzzles, crafting, sewing, crocheting and going to the casinos occasionally. She enjoyed coaching girls Little League softball, watching the Green Bay Packers and most of all loved attending her children and grandchildren's school activities. Betty was a sports enthusiast, who took an interest in all sports and knew all the teams' players, coaches and rules.

Betty is survived by three children, Greg (Bonnie) Johnson, Ironwood, LeeAnn Johnson, Hurley, Wisconsin, and Brian (Ann) Johnson, Superior, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Eric, Sarah, Andrew, Ian and Dylan; two brothers, Jim Rundell, Menominee Falls, Wisconsin, and Leo (Carol) Rundell, Green River, Wyoming; two sisters-in-law, Edith Rundell, Ironwood, and Nadine Seeke, Marquette; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Arthur (Florence) Rundell, Robert (Kathryn) Rundell and Russell Rundell; a sister, Lois (Harvey) Last; two sisters-in-law, Sharon (Robert) Rickard and Beverly Rundell; her brother-in-law, James Seeke; and her personal chef, Matthew Metzerott.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 13, at noon, preceded by visitation at 11 a.m., at the Sharon LutheranChurch, 100 E. Sellar St., in Bessemer, with the Rev. Lauri Maki officiating.

A luncheon will be served at the Kastman Hall at the church following the service.

A committal service and interment will take place at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Bessemer, in the spring.
