Robert 'Bob' 'Ogie' Ogren

EWEN, Mich. — Robert “Bob” “Ogie” Ogren, 79, of Ewen, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024, at Bayside Village in L’Anse.

Bob was born on Feb. 11, 1945, in Torrance, California, the son of Hjalmer and Lempi (Niemi) Ogren. He attended Ewen High School and graduated in 1963.

On Aug. 30, 1963, Bob was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Shirley A. Hautamaki, at the Ewen United Methodist Church. They celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage and were blessed with four children.

He was a faithful member of the Ewen United Methodist Church and was employed as a welder at the White Pine Copper Mine.

His hobbies included hunting and fishing, and later in life taught himself woodworking. Bob loved watching the Detroit Pistons, Tigers and especially the Lions. Ogie enjoyed visiting friends and had a knack for telling stories.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; a son, Mark (Jill); a daughter, Lisa; two grandchildren, Jesse Ogren and Matthew Polkky; a great-grandson, Parker Polkky; two sisters-in-law, Verna and Nancy; a niece, Bonnie; and two nephews, Bruce and John.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant twin daughters, Christina Marie and Deanna May; a sister, Betty Lindsey; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Vernon and Tyyne Hautamaki.

A celebration of Ogie’s life will be held at a later date.
