Lorraine Metsala

NEGAUNEE, Mich. — Lorraine Metsala, 86, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday morning Sept. 21, 2014, at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee with her daughters by her side.

She was born on Jan. 9, 1928, in Iron River to Arthur and Mary (Moilanen) Eliasson.

After graduation, Lorraine worked in Chicago before settling into her real passion of being a wife, mother and homemaker which she lovingly did for the rest of her life.

On Oct. 9, 1948, she married Reino “Ray” Metsala and they were married for 60 years until his death in 2008. She then moved to Marquette to be near her oldest daughter.

Lorraine is survived by three daughters, Phyllis Vogelmann, Susan (Bill) Thomas and Claranne (Randy) Ongie; six grandchildren, Karyn (Jerry) Juntunen, Jason (Melissa) Thomas, Robin (Drew) Mikkola, David (Alissa) Ongie, Matt (Lettie) Ongie, and Jared Ongie; six great-grandchildren, Tyson, Joy and Fletcher Thomas, Evie Mikkola, Fiona Ongie and Livie Ongie.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; her parents, Arthur and Mary Eliasson; and her brother Clarence Eliasson.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 26, 2014, at 3 p.m. at the Cane Funeral Home in Ontonagon with Pastor Steve Hulke officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the start of the service and a luncheon will follow at Siloa Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Ontonagon.
