Kazmirz 'Charlie' Urbanski

WAKEFIELD, Mich. — Kazmirz “Charlie” Urbanski, 94, a longtime resident of Wakefield, passed away Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015.

He was born on June 19, 1921, in Wakefield, a son of Frank and Rozalia (Pawlowski) Urbanski.  Charlie attended Wakefield High School and graduated in 1940.

He was a merchant marine during World War II.

Charlie worked in Detroit for 23 years and then returned to Wakefield in the early 1970’s.  He worked at the White Pine Mine, Everson Tool & Die and then tended bar part-time at the Crossing Inn for 10 years.

Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, the former Verna Blaskowski; three sons, Martin (Thida), Melbourne, Fla., Michael (Myra), Scottsdale, Ariz., and William, Whitmore Lake; two daughters, Anita Greenough, Wakefield, and Sandra (Kevin) Thompson, Chesapeake, Va .; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, John, Wakefield, and Harry (Mary), Kingsford; his sister-in-law, Shirley Urbanski, Ironwood; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Zigmund “Ziggy” and Leo; and four sisters, Cecelia in infancy, Mary Bridgeman, Bernice Gibas and Sophie Boedigheimer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Oct. 1, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wakefield, with the Rev. Antony Lukka, celebrant.

Rite of Committal and interment will take place at Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.

Lunch will be served at the church hall following the cemetery service.

Arrangements are under the direction of Jerald Rocco, owner-manager of Lakeside Memorial Chapel Inc., in Wakefield.
