Robert C. 'Bob' Voss

PINE LAKE, Wis. - Robert C. "Bob" Voss, 86, of Pine Lake, died peacefully early Sunday morning, March 13, 2016, at his home on Pine Lake, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Sept. 3, 1929, in Minocqua, son of the late Charles and Laura (Bridge) Voss, and attended school in Mercer. He then served in the U.S. Army in Germany at the end of World War II.

Following his discharge from the Army, Bob attended culinary school in Milwaukee, becoming a chef and working at Frenchie's Restaurant in Milwaukee.

He was married to Alice I. Wicks on March 1, 1952, in Milwaukee. They moved to Mercer in 1960 and Pine Lake in 1962.

Bob was part owner of the Skylawn Supper Club in Oma for seven years and owned and operated the Heart of the North in Mercer for several years. He then was employed at White Pine Copper Co. for four years, retiring because of a disability in 1968.

He was a member of the Oma Lions Club and served as Oma town chairman for several years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, gardening, cooking and spending time with his children and grandchildren at his home on Pine Lake. He also enjoyed his winter home in Florida for the past 26 years.

An outstanding chef, Bob's family always looked forward to his sumptuous meals on Sundays and holidays. He possessed a great sense of humor and kept us laughing up until the very end.

Surviving are his wife, Alice, of 64 years; a son, Jeffrey, Medford; two daughters, Patti (Charles) LaMarche, Pence, and Lori (Rich) Smaglik, Stevens Point; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Ardith Paternoster, Sussex, and a host of friends.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Richard; and two sisters, Dorothy Guenther and Eleanor Thompson.

Per Bob's wishes, cremation has taken place.

Private family graveside services and interment will take place in the Mercer Cemetery at a later date.
