Michael G. Vargovich Sr.

GURNEY, Wis. - God welcomed another angel into His kingdom on Tuesday, May 31, 2016. Michael G. Vargovich Sr., "Vargy," age 69, left this world surrounded by his loving family at home after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Michael was born Aug. 7, 1946, to the late George and Stella (Talkowski) Vargovich in Ironwood, Mich. He attended Luther L. Wright High School until his enlistment into the U.S. Army in 1963.

Upon his return home, he was united in marriage to Denys Baribeau on June 5, 1965. They made their forever home in Gurney where they raised their three children. Michael had a great love for all animals and had many special pets throughout the years.

Michael held various jobs throughout the years, including logging and working at Beloit Hi-Bob and C.G. Bretting Manufacturing in Ashland for 28 years until his retirement in 2007. After retirement, Michael and Denys worked together doing the local rural mail route.

Michael was an avid "tinkerer." He was forever fixing something or building things that would withstand a tornado. Spending time with family, friends and cooking were a few of his passions. He also loved the outdoors and welcomed time spent at his camp in "the little field."

Precious memories will forever be held by his beloved wife, Denys; their three children, Wanda (Stuart) Anderson, Roxanne Kokely (Michael Henning) and Michael Vargovich Jr. (Deborah Huhnstock); their grandchildren, Lynn (Matt) Jensen, Cody Kokely (Katie), Dylan Anderson (Mikayle Piehl), Paige Vargovich (Greg Vinci Jr.) and Mitchell Vargovich; their great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Colton; father-in-law, Arthur Baribeau; brother-in-law, Dennis Baribeau; and Michael's special buddy, Rodney Fischer.

Per Michael's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral services held. Michael would have wished everyone to celebrate the life he lived rather than grieve the life he lost.

McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ironwood assisted the family. Online condolences may be expressed at mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.
