Vaughn Creek bridge construction begins

Gurney, Wis. — The construction of a bridge over Vaughn Creek to reopen Wisconsin 169 begins Monday, after a section of the roadway was washed out during the July 11 storm.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Musson brothers Inc., and Pheifer Brothers Construction Company are the prime contractors for the $1.3 million project to repair the washout caused by flooding after heavy rains hit Iron County and other northern Wisconsin counties on the night of July 11 and morning of July 12.

Wisconsin 169 will remain closed until the end of construction, with drivers encouraged to use Wisconsin 13, Wisconsin 77, U.S. 51 and U.S. 2 as a detour.

The department expects the work, which will be funded through a combination of state and federal funding, to be complete by late November.

The Vaughn Creek washout is the last major road closure in the county that was caused by the July storm.
