Wilbert Perttula

MARQUETTE, Mich. — Wilbert Perttula, 95, of Trout Creek, passed away Oct. 11, 2016, at Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette Michigan.

He was born June 28, 1921, in Trout Creek to John and Fanny (Ollila) Perttula. Wilbert served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He worked as a lumber grader for many different lumber mills and taught lumber grading at Michigan Tech University.

On June 9, 1951, he was in united in marriage to Lois (Carlisle) Perttula. They were together for 69 years, including their dating time and marriage.

Wilbert loved to woodwork and gave many of the pieces he made as gifts to family members. He also enjoyed making wood and was never happier than on a wood pile.

Wilbert is survived by his children, Terry (Sheila), Kenneth (Florence), Nancy (Bruce) Porier, Steven (Kelly), Timothy (Sunni) and Trina (Rory) Hokens; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; former daughter-in-law, Patricia; sister, Ruth Steinmetz; brother, Reverend Ruben Perttula, and numerous nephews nieces and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Waino, Walfred, Wilho and Wesley; and an infant sister, Viola.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 15, at 2 p.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Trout Creek. Friends may call the church from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Burial will be in the Trout Creek Cemetery, with military rites provided by Ontonagon County Veterans Association.
