Frances Ann DeSautelle

EVANSTON, Ill. - Frances Ann DeSautelle, 92, died Aug. 28, 2018, in Evanston.

She was born on Jan. 18, 1926, in Bessemer, Mich.

Fran was a graduate of A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer. After working briefly in Chicago, she returned to the Bessemer-Ironwood area and worked for Cherne Contracting Corporation and subsequently at Indianhead Mountain Ski Resort. She went on to receive her Associate Degree from Gogebic Community College, Bachelor of Arts Degree from Northland College and Master of Arts Degree in Library Science from Northern Michigan University. She was the librarian at Ironwood High School when she retired. Upon retirement, she enjoyed traveling and sight-seeing with a group of friends and volunteered at the Ironwood Historical Museum. Fran loved to read, was a great cook, and enjoyed golfing with Marge Schmalz, her friend and competitive rival. She was loved by her family, friends and care-givers who enjoyed her positive outlook, wit and snappy comebacks.

Fran is survived by her sister, Virginia Bennetts; brothers, Joseph and Stephen Jurasin; sons, James (Felice) and John (Connie) DeSautelle; granddaughter, Nicole DeSautelle and grandson, Joseph DeSautelle. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Julia (Serbin) Jurasin; husband, James DeSautelle; sisters, Mary Senkpiel and Helen Loughran, and brothers, Michael, John and Frank Jurasin.

Visitation will be from noon-1 p.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 4, at the Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood with Father Robb Jurkovich as celebrant. Refreshments served after in the church hall.

Committal and interment will be at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood.

Frick-Zielinski Funeral Home, Bessemer, is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established at St. Jude's Children's Hospital and any donations will be forwarded to them.
