    IRONWOOD - Hurley utilized its size advantage and held Ironwood's shooters in check to beat its rival 56-34 Friday night. One of the biggest crowds of the season was on hand for the contest, but the Midgets took them out of it early on, building leads of 7-0, 14-3 and then 29-11 at halftime. The Red Devils didn't have an answer for Hurley's bigs, especially James Sukanen, who scored 22 points.   • Iron County trail group provides progress update

    HURLEY — Members of the Iron County Regional Trail Committee got some good news Thursday as they were informed the group’s Coastal Management Grant had cleared an initial hurdle and is one step closer to being funded. In October, the county applied for a grant to fund research into the ownership of the former Soo Line rail grade that proponents want to use to expand the county’s trail system.     ALMONT, Mich. - Daren Alan Juopperi, aka Matthew James, 31, lost his battle of addiction to a heroin overdose on Jan. 30, 2016. Daren was born on May 14, 1984, to James Cronk and Kristina Tarnaski. Daren started his education in Wakefield and proceded to obtain credits towards an automotive degree. He made his family in Lower Michigan, meeting Norma Chapman, who gave birth to their two children, Devon John James and Savanna Marie. Through them he remains with us.
