    By ZACHARY MARANO [email protected] LANSING — Governor Gretchen Whitmer awarded more than $1.7 million in Neighborhood Enhancement Program grants on Tuesday, including $45,000 to the city of Ironwood and $30,000 to the Gogebic-Ontonagon Community Action Agency. According to the release, these grants will help make necessary home repairs, energy efficient upgrades and neighborhood amenity improvements.     CHICAGO - Donald Everette Funk, of Chicago, a fourth generation seedsman and seed industry pioneer, died on Thursday, June 9, 2022, at home and surrounded by family. He was 79. Don was born and raised in Kentland, Indiana, on Aug. 29, 1942. The son of Bill and Arlene (nee Nelson) Funk, Don grew up with older brother, Bob; sister Joy; and younger brothers, Richard and Bill.     KENTON, Mich. — Chester William “Ches” Johnson, 78, of Kenton, died of a broken heart on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at his home. Ches was born on Aug. 13, 1943, in Stambaugh, a son of the late Eric Chester and Ruth Josephine (Seirra) Johnson. He attended Ewen High School and graduated in 1962. On Sept. 28, 1963, Ches married Sheila Jean Nara at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Paynesville. They celebrated nearly 59 years of marriage before her passing on June 1, 2022.
