Thelma Agnes Demaray

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Thelma Agnes Demaray, 96, of Sault Ste. Marie, formerly of Bergland, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, in Sault Ste. Marie.

She was born Aug. 6, 1917, in McMillan, to Frank and Belle (Borton) Bailey. Thelma moved to Bergland as a young child, grew up there and was a 1937 graduate of Bergland High School.

Thelma married Aubrey C. Demaray in 1942 just before he left to serve in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. When Aubrey's military service was completed, they made their home in Bergland, where they raised two sons. Thelma moved to Sault Ste. Marie in 2006 to be near her son, Ken, and his family.

Thelma enjoyed crocheting, knitting and watching and feeding birds.

Thelma is survived by sons, Bartley (Katherine) Demaray, of Salsbury, N.C., and Ken Demaray, of Sault Ste. Marie; grandchildren, Christine (Tom) Brown Jr., Ann Mangan, Eric (Kathy) Demaray and Kristina (Scott) Nason; and great-grandchildren, Mason, Bailey, Cole, Brianna, Connor, Vance and Liam.

Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey, in 1983; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth "Betsy" Demaray; and siblings, Carl Bailey Sr., Georgianna "Toots" Perttu, June Vittone, Charles Bailey, Mae Hill, Herbert Bailey and Florence Barnaby.

Services will be held Friday, Dec. 20, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 404 Birch St., Bergland.

Visitation will be held from noon until 2 p.m. (EST), followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m.

Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Bergland in the spring.
