Louis D. 'Louie' Kurta

IRONWOOD, Mich. - Louis D. "Louie" Kurta, 67, of Ironwood, died peacefully Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at Westgate Nursing, Rehabilitation and Assisted Living Community in Ironwood, with his family by his side, following a lengthy illness.

Louie was born March 2, 1947, in Ironwood, son of the late Michael and Justine (Kovales) Kurta, and attended Newport School and Luther L. Wright High School. He was employed at Ahonen Lumber Co., White Pine Copper Co., and Ray's and Lutey's Flower Shop over the years, and was an active member of the Aurora Athletic Club. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening and woodworking.

He was married to the former Susan Saari in 1965. She preceded him in death in 1987.

He then married Theresa Grawey on Oct. 13, 1989, in Hurley, Wis. She preceded him in death on March 28, 2011.

Louie is survived by three daughters, Christine (Randy) Hedman and Kim (Dave) Martin, both of Ironwood, and Amanda Kurta, Wildwood, Fla .; stepdaughter, Deanna Constantini, Ironwood; six grandchildren, Scott Kitley, Erica (Phu) Nguyen, Daniel Anderson II, Susan Anderson, Airia Cooper and Ava Putney; two great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Alaina Nguyen; three stepgranddaughters, Makayla Constantini, Victoria Preli and Courtney Hartwell; one stepgrandson, Mike Hedman; a sister, Jean Maki, Ironwood Township; his mother-in-law, Patricia Grawey, Ironwood; brother-in-law, Delbert (Vickie) Grawey, Blaine, Minn .; sister-in-law, Delores Kurta, Gile, Wis .; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Marie Kurta; brothers, Barney and Michael Kurta; and sisters, Dorothy O'Leary and Marian Butson.

Out of respect for Louie's wishes, cremation has taken place.

There will be a luncheon and celebration of Louie's life Monday, July 28, at the Aurora Athletic Club at 4:00 p.m. for all his friends and family.
