Gordon D. 'Gordy' Shogren

KENOSHA, Wis. - Gordon D. "Gordy" Shogren, 75, of Pleasant Prairie, Wis., formerly of Winthrop Harbor, Ill., and Bessemer, Mich., died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2014, at Kenosha United Hospital, Kenosha. Gordy was born Aug. 31, 1939, in Wakefield, Mich., and was a member of Sharon Lutheran Church in Bessemer.

He proudly served with the United States Army as a helicopter crew chief and gunner in the Vietnam War. After the war, he moved to Waukegan, Ill., and worked as a mechanic while operating his own towing and snowplowing business. Gordon retired from OMC in Waukegan and owned State Line Storage in Winthrop Harbor.

Gordon loved fishing, hunting, trapshooting, bowling, snowmobiling, motorcycling, four-wheeling and restoring a 1929 Model A Ford.

Survivors include his long-time companion, Annie Tucker, of Pleasant Prairie, Wis .; children, Christine Thompson, of Winthrop Harbor, and Gordon Shogren Jr., of Zion; grandchildren Jackie (Keith) Beaudoin, Leslie (Nathan) Fenton, Chelsea (Dan) Stanley, Paige (Kris) Magruder, Madison Thompson, and Carter and Avery Shogren; great-grandchildren, Katherine, Jack, Ellie, Maddie, Ketcher, Kooper, William, and John; numerous relatives in Michigan; and close friend and business partner Jim Breckenfeld.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Eskil and Olga Shogren, of Bessemer.

A burial service will be held with the assistance of Congdon Funeral Home in Zion, Ill., and Frick-Zielinski Funeral Home in Bessemer on Monday, May 18, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery, 501 E. Cinnabar St., Bessemer, MI, 49911.

Friends may greet the family on Monday from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m., or until the service concludes.
