Theresa L. Mestnik

NEGAUNEE, Mich. — Theresa L. Mestnik, 92, former Marquette resident, passed away at 2 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 21, 2015, at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee.

Theresa was born July 1, 1923, in Bessemer, the daughter of the late Peter L and Elizabeth R. (Michalotti) Mattaini. Theresa grew up in Bessemer and was a graduate of the A.D. Johnson High School Class of 1940.

Theresa went on to attend St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minn., where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1944 and went on to teach English and history at various high schools, including in Ironwood, retiring in 1982 after 37 years of teaching. Theresa was a member of the St. Peter Catholic Cathedral in Marquette.

Survivors include a daughter, Judy (Jim) Gray, of Ishpeming; a sister, Gloria (Gary) Bushschacher, of Elysian, Minn .; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Theresa was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel, in 2012; son, Dr. Pete Mestnik, in 2007; and sister, Norma Obradavich.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 2 to 3 p.m. (EDT) on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming, followed by a Liturgy of the Word service at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Msgr. Michael Steber.
